Who am I?

My name is Jude and I live in Galway

I am a queer and neurodivergent psychotherapist. I find spaces and relationships in which I can be myself to be a very joyful experience. 

I am passionate about social justice. I often combine political activism and creativity. 

I am a singer and a songwriter, a painter, a dancer, an avid mover. I am an Irish speaker.

I am disabled

I am fascinated by power, who has it, how it is shared, who wants it, who gives it away, the mechanisms in which people are empowered and disempowered. I keep a careful eye on power in the therapy room. I believe it to be closely intertwined with safety. 

Qualifications

I am a lifelong learner and as an autistic person, I research for fun. 

This has meant that in addition to my psychotherapy degree along the way I did a:

BA in Philosophy and English, 

BA in Irish, 

Higher Diploma in Education, 

MA in Irish

BA in Holistic Counselling and Psychotherapy

Diploma in Gender, Sexuality, Relationship Diversity

Specialities

Safety is my guiding principle. I believe that it is important to have a container of safety and strengths in which to process the parts that need attention and healing. 

I work with parts and welcome clients who are fragmented. 

I use a somatic approach with parts and also welcome creative expressions. I believe that finding one’s voice or voices is an intrinsic part of the therapeutic journey. 

I welcome clients from the queer and neurodivergent communities. 

I welcome clients who have endured physical, emotional, spiritual, psychological and sexual violence as children or as adults. 

I welcome clients who are struggling with suicidal ideation. 

I use a lot of psychoeducation and am mindful of sharing power with clients. 

Humour enters my practice occasionally, acknowledging that while life can be incredibly hard, it is often absurd. I believe that laughter and crying are linked.
